How To's

These are links to documents that I have provided to my customers that give detailed step by step instructions on how to perform specific tasks on their computers. Where possible the operating system differences are identified. For the most part the instructions are for Windows XP

Using the AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy scanner programs. By far the most popular how to file.

General instructions for managing files in Windows. A discussion of how to use the Windows Explorer program that comes with Windows. Also talks about some "hot key" shortcuts to doing common things like cut, copy and paste.

Windows System Management for the PC Owner. A discussion of many facets of maintaining your computer. It is a document which began life as a handout for clients and visitors to a booth at a show. It is not complete and some sections are still empty. Hopefully (maybe with some encouragement) I can finish the sections I have in mind.

Allowing remote desktop control with NetMeeting. This tells you step by step how to create a shortcut to NetMeeting and use it to connect to my computer. Then you allow me to control your computer remotely. It might enable me to fix your computer without having to make a service call. NetMeeting is part of Windows.

Accessing the Internet - The first installment in a basic guide to checking out what is on the World Wide Web.

EMail Basics - This is combination cheat sheet and tutorial on basic email operations using Microsoft Outlook Express. It is not a thorough discussion but rather a description of how to use the basic features.

Dealing with Attachments - in emails of course

Managing Pictures - a topic that frustrates many digital camera owners. Here are some suggestions that reflect my preferrences. Everyone deals with their computer in their own way. My way handles pictures like any other file and avoids the differences you find among the many photo management programs out there. But ultimately it's your computer.

Running the Defragmenter in Windows

A Practical Spreadsheet document - for my Excel Basics class

An example Excel spreadsheet on building Charts with an instruction document, for my Excel class. Sorry this is a little later than I wanted.
